Do you attend a club, group or organisation and volunteer your time to help?
If you attend a sports / youth club or any other group or organisation and help out in anyway, and are aged between 12 and 16 then why not get recognised for your volunteering efforts.
What does it mean to me?
Get recognised for your volunteering without affecting what you currently do and show prospective future employers, colleges or universities your volunteering achievements.
What is the VYPER scheme about?
The VYPER scheme is a rewards scheme for young people aged 14 & 15 years old who are involved in any type of volunteering with clubs, groups or organisations within their community.
Special recognition for young people aged 12 and 13 who are volunteering
can be arranged with clubs, groups or organisations.
Typical volunteering activities could include any of the following:-
- Helping out in a tuck shop
- Helping out at school
- Assisting club coaches
- Helping other young people within the club
- Helping out with organising events
- Tidying their environment
- Plus lots more
What are the Rewards?
There are 3 awards available at different levels of
volunteering hours
Each level will be signed off and the awards will be presented at an awards
ceremony during volunteers’ week usually during June each year. These
awards could lead to many more volunteering opportunities such as:
- Vinspired
- Duke of Edinburgh
- Lifestyle
- Youth Panels
- Plus other opportunities
How do I get on the scheme?
As a young volunteer you will be nominated by an adult who usually becomes our mentor they will contact one of the schemes officers and a meeting will be arranged with the young person, mentor, VYPER scheme officer and parent (if requested). This meeting will be arranged at a time to suit the young person and mentor.
What happens at the meeting?
Discussions take place on the type of volunteering you are doing to make sure it is safe and you are happy with it. We will also discuss what role your mentor will have throughout the scheme, the role the scheme officers will have, and how you will use the log book to record your hours, as well as the support available to you throughout the scheme. At the meeting the number of hours for each level of award is agreed with you and your mentor. Once the hours are agreed you will sign up to the scheme with the mentor and you will then be registered onto the scheme.
How do I use my log book?
Now you are registered on the scheme you can record all the volunteering hours you have completed on a particular date, and describe the volunteering activity. This is then signed off by your mentor. When you have reached your target hours you can apply for that level of award.
What happens if I am struggling to complete the agreed hours due to school work or other things?
This is not a problem as we would come back out to see you and your
mentor, and re-assess the situation and agree new hours.
The scheme is designed to make sure your school work is not affected.
