COMPACTER - New Draft Website for East Riding Compact

Having gained funding from Capacity Builders Resilience Fund, ERVAS is conducting a Refresh & Review of the East Riding Compact.

In additional to updates to the Compact Codes and definitions, we are soon to launch the new website, www.compacter.org.uk - the site is currently in a draft format, but is live now and available for viewing and comment.

It is hoped that the refresh will enable Public and Voluntary Sectors to reconfirm their committments to the COMPACT and will provide more robust mechanisms for conducting Compact practices.

In 2008, iCoCo launched the Awards for Bridging Cultures (ABCs). Funded by the Baring Foundation, the ABCs reward grassroots schemes and projects, run by community and voluntary organisations, that help to build bridges between communities and cultures.

Developing Your Comprehensive Community Engagement Strategy

a practical guide for LSP’s
 

In conjunction with Urban Forum and IDeA, NAVCA have produced a guide aimed at local strategic partnerships (LSP’s) and their partners to enable the development of a joined-up approach to community engagement across and area.

A new ‘Duty to Involve’ means that engaging and empowering local people and groups is now a requirement of Local Authorities and their partners.Comprehensive engagement strategies have only recently been emerging and many areas are just starting to develop their plans.

The plan includes practical information needed to develop the strategy, including: 

·         Why develop a comprehensive engagement Strategy?

·         Assessing current performance

·         Developing your vision

·         Planning for implementation

·         What should go in to your comprehensive engagement strategy? 

ERVAS will continue to bring news of how the strategy is being developed in the East Riding and what actions will result from it. 

Empowering the voluntary sector

NAVCA's Empowering the Voluntary Sector programme has been awarded funding to continue for a further three years. The funding will mean NAVCA will continue to run their popular workshops and help more third sector organisations understand the principles and framework of public law. The new funding will come from Compact Advocacy as part of their successful Big Lottery funded new partnership with NAVCA and the Public Law Project (PLP) called 'Empowering the Voluntary Sector: Using Compact Advocacy, Public Law and training to challenge unjust public body decisions'.

The new partnership will improve the reach and expertise of the existing Compact Advocacy Programme (CAP) and builds on the existing partnership between NAVCA and PLP.

Kevin Curley Chief Executive of NAVCA, said: "These workshops have proved extremely popular since we started them in 2006 and we are delighted that they will be continuing for at least another two and a half years. These courses have already saved local third sector groups nearly £600,000 through people being given the knowledge and ability to challenge bad decisions by public bodies. Through this new partnership, this work can only get better".
